Chipzel

Chipzel grew up in a niche subculture on the internet of demo-sceners, hackers and tinkerers of retro consoles known as chiptune.

Beloved within the gaming community, Chipzel is a BAFTA nominated, award-winning composer and music producer. An unstoppable chiptune whirlwind, her instrument of choice is the iconic Nintendo Gameboy.

A recognised pioneer of the iconic chiptune scene, Chipzel’s prolific musical career has seen her touring the world, bringing her acclaimed stylings to countless countries across the globe. With multiple studio albums under her belt and a catalogue of works in Video Games over the past 10 Years Chipzel is best loved for her idiosyncratic scores including Super Hexagon, Dicey Dungeon, River City Girls and official DLC contributions to Brace Yourself Games' Crypt of the Necrodancer and Cadence of Hyrule.

Chipzel has been working on a new project, called TieYourLaces (TYL). TYL was first developed in 2021 The work is a collaboration between Niamh and We Throw Switches (Craig Fairweather and Andrew Dyce), combining approachable video game design and alternative hardware with Niamh’s powerful sound to encourage play and movement in social, public and community spaces.

TYL is punksport, movement-based video game installation, which combines modern video game design; original music composition; and cutting-edge hardware currently in development with Chipzel and We Throw Switches. The motion technology at the heart of the installation invites participants to move around a pre-set physical 'court' sized space without any 'wearables', creating an intuitive, approachable and competitive movement experience.  We can’t wait to launch TYL at RENDR Festival.
