Tobias Wiesner
Tobias Wiesner is a VES Award-winning Compositing Supervisor at Wētā FX, where he oversees the integration of live-action, CG, and FX elements into cohesive, story-driven visual effects for film and TV productions.
He received the Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal Feature for Avengers: Infinity War and earned a nomination in the same category for Avengers: Endgame, a testament to his technical expertise and ability to lead creative teams in high-pressure production environments.
Since joining Wētā in 2012 to work on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Wiesner has contributed to many of the studio’s most ambitious projects. His recent credits as Compositing Supervisor include The Last of Us – Season 2, The Marvels, Eternals, and The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. In this role, he focuses on translating the creative vision into final imagery, balancing artistic intent with technical precision. He works closely with artists and supervisors across departments to deliver shots that not only meet the highest production demands but also elevate the storytelling.
Earlier in his career at Wētā FX, he worked as a compositor and lead on projects such as The Hobbit trilogy, the Planet of the Apes series, Black Widow, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and more.
Originally from Erlangen, Bavaria, Tobias was drawn to visual effects after discovering TRON (1982) on VHS, captivated by its pioneering vision of digital worlds and their potential in storytelling.
He is a member of the Visual Effects Society (VES).
